Dr. Svetlana Shugh is a pediatric cardiologist at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, specializing in heart failure, mechanical circulatory support and cardiac transplantation. After earning her medical degree at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, she completed her pediatric residency at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Dr. Shugh underwent further training in pediatric cardiology at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine, and completed an additional sub-specialty year in pediatric heart failure and transplantation at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Dr. Shugh joined the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Heart Institute in 2019. Dr. Shugh cares for patients ranging from infancy to young adulthood who have cardiomyopathy, develop heart failure, require mechanical circulatory support (ventricular assist devices), and after heart transplant. Dr. Shugh’s research interests include improving care for children with ventricular assist devices, standardizing practices and quality improvement, and improving transplant longevity. Dr. Shugh is involved in multiple multi-institutional research initiatives. Dr. Shugh lives in South Florida with her husband, and two children.
