Add to Calendar Neurosurgery Interdisciplinary Case Review Conference 1/2/2020 7:30:00 AM 1/2/2020 8:30:00 AM America/New_York Memorial Regional Hospital false MM/DD/YYYY

Target Audience
Specialties - Neurological surgery, Surgery, Surgical critical care, Trauma

Overview
The purpose of this committee is to improve care of a variety of neurosurgical disease processes by reviewing patients who have been treated or who are currently undergoing treatment. Healthcare providers who attend the case review are challenged to care for the neuroscience patient facing critical illness or injury as well as patients undergoing elective brain and spine surgery. The interdisciplinary team is challenged to stay updated on current knowledge and research related to the neuroscience patient. Diagnostic approaches, surgical, medical, and psychological management guidelines are driven by the need for cost effective care of the neurosurgical patients and their families. The human nervous system is the most complex and versatile in the body. When it is damaged by inherited or developmental abnormalities, disease processes, traumatic injury, it requires an interdisciplinary approach of specialists to correlate its function. Because of the high risk and complexity of caring for this specific population, ongoing education and decision making with evidence based practice guidelines are required. Peer reviewed articles from, but not limited to The American Association of Neurosurgeons (AANS) will be discussed. Clinical practice guidelines will be developed in order to standarize the approach to these patients.

Objectives
  1. Develop the interdisciplinary care plan of the neuroscience patient based on current literature and/or provider consensus
  2. Analyze, interpret, and select best radiologic studies of the neuroscience patient in order to establish and optimize the plan of care.
  3. Propose potential preventive interventions as applicable and implement stadardized care where able.

Accreditation
Memorial Healthcare System is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
